The main limitations teaching students with special needs is what they can physically do, what they’re capable of doing. All the time there’s a lot of modification that goes into their physical activities. However, that can be accomplished with a little time and perseverance. Also, another very important part is the limitation of their social interactions and acceptance.
Coach Perez believes that to be able to perform and be in the natural environment of society is a wonderful feeling for students with special needs because they don’t want to be separate from the world. She sees they want to be included. So when she teaches these kids, when she coaches these kids, she coaches them as if she was coaching a varsity team. She teaches them as you as if she was teaching a regular class in an inclusion classroom. She teaches them with the idea that they’re going to get the program, the academics, the athletics, like everyone else, and they’re going to be able to perform them.
